Personal Statement
"I am thrilled to call Portland home. My husband and I moved from North Carolina and have grown to love the Pacific Northwest. As a teacher and principal in the public schools of North Carolina and Kentucky for over 25 years, I served in the educational field within each of my communities. My position at Lewis & Clark College allows me to continue providing services to my community in a diverse way."
Professional Biography
Sherri Carreker started her teaching career at a kindergarten and preschool program in Berlin, Germany. She continued her teaching career in elementary, middle, and high schools within the southeast United States. For 14 years she served as principal in an elementary school and a high school within North Carolina.
In 2002, Sherri joined the faculty at Lewis & Clark College as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Teacher Education and Coordinator of the Teacher Education Continuing License. In addition to this position, she is actively involved in the New Teacher Initiative, which is a collaborative effort with school districts around the state of Oregon to support new teachers.
Currently, Sherri serves as the Director for the Center for Community Engagement (CCE). CCE helps to communicate the mission of the Graduate School of Education and Counseling by supporting the work of the faculty through connecting services to the community.
