Faculty Update: Thomas Doherty
Recent news from Dr. Doherty:
- In January 2012, Thomas Doherty was an invited participant at the meeting “Increasing Public Understanding of Climate Risks and Choices: What We Can Learn from Social Science Research and Practice,” a Joint Workshop of the Erb Institute for Global Sustainable Enterprise, University of Michigan and the Union of Concerned Scientists in Ann Arbor.
- In the Spring of 2012, Thomas taught the first class in the new CPSY Ecopsychology in Counseling Certificate. He also taught an undergraduate course and served on the Lewis & Clark Sustainability Council.
- Thomas continued to develop a weekend, equine-assisted outdoor therapy program for Native American youth at the Chemawa School in Salem that employs CPSY graduates and students as counselors and trainees.
- Thomas had short articles published in Work Style Magazine and The Long View, the Oregon State Bar Association Sustainable Future newsletter.
- Thomas contributed the preface to a new text on Environmental Social Work. He is currently working on a chapter on research methods in ecotherapy for a new Environmental Psychology text.
- Thomas spoke on sustainability to the headquarters staff of the Portland Airport and Port of Portland on February 22, 2012 and co-facilitated a workshop with Lewis & Clark Sustainability Director Amy Dvorak at a recent Lewis & Clark Staff Development Days.
- Thomas served as 2012 conference program chair for Div. 34 (Environment) of the American Psychological Association this August and was elected President-Elect of Div. 34.
- Thomas continues as Editor-in-Chief of the journal Ecopsychology. Thomas sees clients in his private practice in a LEED Platinum-rated Green Building in North Portland.
