Cultural Competency Workshops

A cultural competency workshop will be provided to schools that wish to learn more about diverse students, families and communities in their schools. The workshop begins with an exploration of the school and staff culture; including beliefs, values and norms.

Through video and literature presenters share the voices of diverse students and families in the school. The presenters lead participants in discussions that identify the assets, values, and expectations of communities, parents and students. Through small group discussion, guest speakers, and articles participants create learning environments where students, families and teachers are respected.

District office, administrators and teachers will:

  1. Learn the history and stories of immigrant groups represented at their school
  2. Learn about the funds of knowledge inherent in diverse cultures and families and how to use them to teach and learn in culturally responsive ways
