Community Engagement
Consulting
Consulting services will be provided for district offices and schools that want to improve or enhance the district Lau Plan, instructional program design for English learners including sheltered instruction and English language development, immigrant parent participation, and community outreach. The purpose of consulting services is to build district and school capacity in:
- Creating and delivering professional development using effective teaching strategies for diverse populations
- Evaluating and providing support with Oregon Department of Education district and school plans (including LAU and SIP)
- Sharing research, articles, and protocols for creating equitable learning communities
- Organizing parent and community outreach
Duration: Consulting is designed as a systemic piece that includes data analysis; state, national and international; research, walkthroughs and other protocols; and program models, analysis and design. It is recommended that districts and schools using consulting services set up regular consultation on a monthly basis for a one to two year period.
Who should participate? Elementary, middle, high school and district administrators, ESOL or other personnel working with program design, professional development or community outreach that impacts the academic achievement of English language learners.
