Community Engagement
Sheltered Instruction Observation Protocol (SIOP) Training
SIOP training will be provided to schools that desire to improve content area instruction for English language learners. The training is designed for practitioners who wish to increase their knowledge, skills and disposition in teaching diverse populations. Teachers will work together to design SIOP content lessons that are standard based and use English language proficiency standards to teach functions and forms at different levels of proficiency. Teachers participating in this training will learn:
- How to provide components of effective lesson design for culturally and linguistically diverse students
- How to access to content vocabulary and knowledge
- Effective teaching strategies that create equity and access to instruction
- Instruction that builds language and enhances meaning
Duration: 3 Days
Who should attend? Elementary, intermediate and high school teachers working with English language learners in the content areas including science, social studies and language arts. It is recommended that teachers come to this training with a team in order to continue to plan instruction on site.
