Community Engagement
Oregon Language, Literacy and Culture Institute (OLLCI)
This institute is designed to assist elementary, middle and high school teachers in learning current theory and practice in the education of English language learners. The institute focuses on Language Arts instruction in English and the heritage language. The institute includes the following components:
- Asset Based Literacy Instruction - Critical Theory
- Culturally Relevant Adult, Young Adult & Children’s Literature
- Storytelling Practice
- Lesson Design
- Reading and Writing Strategies
- Cultural Competency
- Assessment that Informs Practice
- Access to Community Resources
Duration: On-campus (6 full days – Mon. – Sat.) or Off-campus (8 days)
Who should attend? Elementary, middle and high school teachers working with English language learners in a variety of settings including structured English immersion, dual immersion, sheltered, ELD push in and Immersion settings.
