ESOL Endorsement

The ESOL Endorsement at Lewis and Clark College is designed for Oregon educators that hold an Oregon teaching license. The endorsement is a 14-semester hour course of study that explores the principles, theories, research and practice of second language acquisition. Course content includes but is not limited to cultural competency, language acquisition theory, English language development, sheltered instruction and literacy strategies, as well as federal and state mandates for schools and districts educating English Language Learners. The ESOL Endorsement is intended for teachers wishing to reinforce or learn new skills,  knowledge and dispositions to better serve ELL and their families. Course are taught by experienced faculty in the field and by adjuncts currently working in districts with diverse populations. The ESOL Endorsement is tailored to provide teachers with the opportunity to discuss issues of diversity, equity and learning in a dynamic and supportive environment.
